Pictures a complicated world when Adolf Hitler, a man considered dead, suddenly re appears on the world stage Adolf Hitler does not die as he did in reality, but lives instead and as snuck out of Berlin to the German countryside Disappearing for a time, he eventually reemerges and is placed before a world tribunal to face crimes against humanity in the trial of the century The book begins as an alternate history story, but later becomes sort of a cultural examination of the world where Hitler is alive, particularly for Germans The book shows that Germany wanted to put it s past behind them, fool themselves into believing that the Nazis were just bad people and that they have nothing to do with them This book pulls the myth that Germans and Nazis have nothing to do with each other as false The book shows clearly that there were plenty of Nazis who escaped justice during the Denazification period of German history, not simply war criminals but also lower and some mid level Nazis, who avoided for one reason or another avoided arrest or prosecution and blended in to German society The book gives us examples that are fair and broad, of simple people excusing what Hitler did because he helped them rebuild their communities, of hard core Nazis saluting Hitler with the Nazi salute openly during the trial, to apathetic individuals who are angry Hitler has returned to remind them of their past and simply want the world to forget the atrocities committed and get on with their lives, despite the fact there are 6 million Jews who can t I find this historically accurate, as US conducted polls in West Germany showed in 1952 a little than 1 in every 3 Germans interviewed said Germany was better off without Jews and a quarter of Germans had a positive opinion of Hitler The book then shows some of the legal complexity on how to charge and prosecute Hitler Who gets to decide his fate, his guilt or innocence the latter of which he is obviously not , and his manner of punishment as well as who will administer it The book again clearly shows that one cannot trust a nation like Germany that has committed such evil in the world, even if the Nazis who committed this action are no longer in power, because there are too many German bigots and fools who actually believe that somehow time erases one s crimes, and that anything done for the Fatherland can somehow be excused or justified somehow I thought ending as somewhat unrealistic, as if Hitler had been tried and found guilty which he is , he would have been sent to Israel, to face the Jewish people whom he had brought death and destruction to I find this book unrealistically tries to portray the idea that just people should not pursue revenge but justice, which is another way for us to allow evil doers to avoid punishment for their crimes Revenge is simply the personal pleasure that one experiences with Justice being done I would recommend you READ, BUT DON T BUY read the book from your local library, as it s not available currently to purchase on a tablet.

Powerful work of historical fiction The alternate history is that instead of Hitler committing suicide as the official story tells us, he survives to stand trail for his sins Other alternate stories have been written Fatherland by Robert Harris, where the Nazis won the war and The Man In The High Castle by Phillip K Dick in which the Nazis and The Japanese empire have won the war and divided the spoils Europe Asia and the Americas between them However, this work presents us with the multitude of issues that would come up had Hitler been tried for his crimes This work plays out as an expose of the hypocrisy to which all members of the world s jury are guilty of One good example is how the defense brings forth the case of Japanese emperor Hirohito who was exonerated from all of the atrocities committed by Japan during the war while Hitler is not A work well done.
